Monofilament Fishing line   Monofilament fishing line

I have observed and noticed that the majority of fisherman prefer nylon monofilament fishing line. This is true for both spinning and conventional reels. Monofilament is available any many different diameters and pound test line, it also has the best abrasion resistance of all fishing line. For most surf fishing, 15  to 20 pound test line is plenty sufficient. Some surf anglers prefer smaller pound test line, because of the casting distance that they can get. When surf fishing you don't want to use anything lighter than 10 pound test line because you are more susceptible to abrasion or breaking under the pressure of the long distance casting. I personally use Ande line, I have used many other fishing lines and the diameter, the abrasion resistance is great, I have found no other line that compares.

The new craze is the Power Pro, instead of monofilament, it is microfilament. Microfilament is braided line and is a lot stronger than monofilament, I really wouldn't advise this type of line for surf fishing, but it is definitely good for boat fishing and pier fishing and anywhere there is a lot of structure. I have found that Power Pro has the tendecy to get line twist, especially in the wind. It is a very good Idea to use shock leader, shock leader helps to prevent snapping your line when casting far distances, It also allows you to put more pressure on your catch when pulling it through the breakers.
