Fishing Hooks

There are many different types of fishing hooks on the market, but there only a few that you should have to choose from when surf fishing. I can personally vouch for Owner hooks, they have to be the sharpest hooks on the market, and the most durable. Owner hooks are chemically sharpened, and require very little maintenance. The majority of fishing hooks are going to require the occasional sharpening, with smaller hooks you can use a hook sharpening stone and with larger hooks, shark hooks etc, you can use a file, which can be purchased at your local tackle or hardware store. When shopping for hooks, there are a few thinks to take in consideration, like what size bait will you be using, I would say you should not go any smaller than a 1/0 hook, the normal size range for surf fishing is 1/0 up to 5/0 and if you plan on shark fishing, I usually use a 10/0 plus size hook. Also make sure that your hooks that you purchase are made for the harsh saltwater, fresh water hooks are not made for saltwater and will corrode before your next fishing trip, if you need confirmation that they are saltwater hooks, it will normally say on the package.
